Lehigh Valley bird sightings for the week of April 24

Willet
Several bird species have arrived in the Lehigh Valley after having left their southern wintering grounds.

The first reported sighting of a Rose-breasted Grosbeak occurred in the past week. Several different types of warblers were reported; some will stay the summer in this area, others are passing through. A Ruby-throated Hummingbird was seen.

Among those en route to breeding locations farther north are the White-winged Scoter, Common Goldeneye, Red-breasted Merganser, Red-necked Grebe, Greater Yellowlegs, Bonaparte's Gull and Solitary Sandpiper. Visit your favorite lake or pond if you hope to see one of these species.

Several rarely seen birds were reported as well: the Least Bittern, Caspian Tern and Willet.
