Plan to attend a bird walk on Saturday, June 20, at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center to look for a variety of breeding birds, including Blue Grosbeaks, which have nested in the area in recent years.
See, listen to and photograph birds from the path that overlooks the Lehigh River—a stunning view. Plan to spend two miles on gravel paths. Short sections will be steep and others may be challenging for people with vertigo.
Dress accordingly for hot, humid weather. Make sure to bring water and appropriate footwear. The trip leader will be Chris Hugusson, of the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society.
The trip begins at 7 a.m. at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center's parking lot. You may register at the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society's website.
Directions: From the Lehigh Valley, drive north on Route 248 and turn left on Route 873 toward Slatington. After bridging the Lehigh River, continue toward Slatington. Before you reach town, make a sharp left onto Paint Mill Road, the site of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.
If you wish, you can continue on the the optics demo at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center afterward.
