Hummingbirds may make early debut here

Good news for humingbird fans: There are reports that hummers have been sighted just north and west of us, and they probably will make their appearance in the greater Lehigh Valley within days. That's a little earlier than normal, perhaps due to the milder winter.

A huge wave of hummingbirds has made its way up the Mississippi and Ohio river valleys, advancing as far east as Hunterton County across the Delaware River in New Jersey. More importantly for us, there has been a reported sighting in Chester County, Pa., and scattered reports as far north as Scranton, Rochester, N.Y., and Connecticut.

Who will be the first here to see a hummingbird? Send us an e-mail at  birdhse@rcn.com if you've seen one in your backyard.
