Lehigh Valley bird sightings for May 28

What a week for warblers! Nine different species of warbler were reported for the week ended May 28. The most common sightings were from Leaser Lake in western Lehigh County. Reports of the week's bird sightings were compiled by Dave DeReamus of the Eastern PA Birdline, a project sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society.

East Allen Township, Northampton County
Gray-cheeked Thrush - 1 seen on May 22

Bethlehem, Northampton County
Peregrine Falcon - 1 seen on May 18

Leaser Lake, Lehigh County
Blue Grosbeak - 1 seen on May 18. Also seen were the following warblers: Mourning, Hooded, Worm-eating, Cerulean, Blackpoll, Blackburnian, Magnolia and Tennessee. Additionally seen: Cliff Swallow, Yellow-throated Vireo, Bobolink and Grasshopper Sparrow.

Alder Flycatcher - 1 seen on May 19 along Moyer Road

Allentown, Lehigh County
Mourning Warbler - 1 seen on May 17 at Cedar Creek Park. Also seen: Peregrine Falcon - 1 on May 19

Walking Purchase Park, Lehigh County
Orchard Oriole and the following warblers: Blackpoll, Worm-eating and Tennessee

Peace Valley Park, Bucks County
Alder Flycatcher - 1 on May 17. Also seen: Prothonotary and Nashville warblers, Snow Goose, Ruddy Duck, Bald Eagle, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Black-billed and Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Swainson's Thrush, Lincoln's Sparrow

The Lehigh Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a field trip to the Delaware Water Gap on June 1. Meet at 6:30 a.m. in the Kmart parking lot in Wind Gap, just north of the Route 512 exit from Route 33. The trip leader will be Terry Master.
