Lehigh Valley bird sightings for January 18

Here are the Lehigh Valley bird sightings for the week of ended January 18. The list was compiled by Dave DeReamus, of the Eastern PA Birdline, which is sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society. The sightings include not only Lehigh and Northampton counties but also adjoining areas.

Cherry Valley, Monroe County
Redhead, 1 on January 15 and January 16.
White-winged Scoter, 1 on January 15 and 1 on January 16.
Iceland Gull, 1 on January 15 (fly-by).
Northern Shrike, 1 on January 15.
Also seen: Eastern Towhee.

Sandt's Eddy, Northampton County
(along the Delaware River near Lower Mud Run Road)
Red-breasted Merganser, 1 on January 12.

Green Pond, Northampton County
Peregrine Falcon, 1 on January 15.
Also seen: Northern Pintail.

Graver's Hill, Northampton County
Lapland Longspur, 1 on January 16.

Heidelberg Township, Lehigh County
Rough-legged Hawk, 1 on January 12 along Reservoir Road.

Lynn Township, Lehigh County
Red-headed Woodpecker, 1 on January 12 along Kunkle's Mill Road.

Fogelsville Quarry, Lehigh County
Greater White-fronted Goose, 1 on January 13.
Ross's Goose, 1 through January 16.
Canvasback, 1 on January 16.
Also seen: Green-winged Teal.

Peregrine Falcon, 1 on January 12.

Redhead, 3 on January 14 at Dorney Park pond.

Lake Muhlenberg, Lehigh County
Greater White-fronted Goose, 1 on January 12.
Canvasback, 3 through January 14.
Greater Scaup, 1 through January 12.

Quakertown, Bucks County
Trumpter Swan, 2 "probable" on January 11 along Raub Road.

Green Lane Reservoir, Montgomery County
(At Church Road area)
Lesser Black-backed Gull, 46 on January 16.
Also seen: Northern Shoveler.
(At Knight Lake area)
Cackling Goose, 2 on January 12.
Also seen: Hooded Merganser.

Gilbertsville, Montgomery County
Bullock's Oriole, 1 through January 17 along Oberholtzer Road.

Peace Valley Park, Bucks County
Canvasback, 18 on January 12 and 8 on January 15.
Greater Scaup, 4 through January 11.
Red-headed Woodpecker, 1 continues to be seen at Angler's Pier.
Also seen: Cackling Goose, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Eastern Towhee, and Field, Swamp and Savannah sparrows.
