Hummingbirds are getting closer

Erratic weather conditions along the East Coast in the past few days have slowed the migration of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The birds have been seen in Virginia, from the Tidewater to the central part of the state.

Usually hummingbirds arrive in the Lehigh Valley around April 15. At the pace they've been going, we may see them a couple days later than that. Cool weather is expected to last for another seven days, according to AccuWeather.

In the meantime, you can prepare your nectar feeders, either by thoroughly cleaning existing ones or replacing old ones with new ones. Also don't forget to have nectar on hand when the birds do arrive. They'll need energy from their flight!
