| Baltimore Oriole |
Gray Catbirds and swallows are commonly seen. The raspy sounds of Eastern Phoebes can be heard around yards and farms. Scan fenceposts or wires for Eastern Kingbirds as they search for insects. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are frequent sights in forested creek valleys.
Louisiana Waterthrush, which arrived a couple of weeks ago, has begun singing vigorously in bogs and along waterways. Its cousin, the Northern Waterthrush, is now arriving in the Lehigh Valley.
Warblers of every species can be heard everywhere. Vireos have joined them in song.
Some of the biggest treats for bird-watchers have returned: Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and Baltimore Orioles. Orchard Orioles have arrived too.
Despite all of these warm-weather newcomers, you may be reminded of our recent chilly temperatures: Two Snow Geese were seen Tuesday at Leaser Lake in Lehigh County.
The season is beginning to be busy! And so have bird-watchers. Many were in the field this week scanning for newly arriving species.
Here is a list of Lehigh Valley bird sightings for the week ended April 30. The Bird House compiled the list from sightings reported by the online service E-Bird.
