| Male Ruby-throated Hummingbird |
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have been seen in the Lehigh Valley.
Last week, if you remember, Ruby-throats were seen to the north, the south, the east and the west of us. None right of them here, however. In fact the first wave of birds had been seen as far north as Cape Cod!
For the record, the first Ruby-throated Hummingbird arrived in the Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, nearly two weeks later than normal. (Usually Ruby-throats arrive in the Lehigh Valley around April 15.) Here are this week's reports:
- Two in Bethlehem on Wednesday and Thursday.
- One in New Tripoli in Lehigh County on Thursday.
- Two in Weaversville in Northampton County on Thursday.
More will be arriving in the next few weeks. Be sure your nectar feeder is clean and full!
Hummingbirds soon will be mating and nesting. The Bird House has an array of hummingbird feeders, quality easy-to-mix nectar, special nesting material, poles for hummingbird feeders and a number of other products that will help you bring these special acrobats to your backyard.
Map is from Hummingbirds.net. As you can see, the first wave of hummingbirds have reached the Canadian Maritimes!
