Audubon Society creates birders' club for youths

The Lehigh Valley Audubon Society is introducing the Junior Birders Club for youngsters and teen-agers eager to join the new nature hobby.

The program will provide opportunities for youth of all ages to develop birding skills through monthly bird walks in the Lehigh Valley. The first one is Saturday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Kids and families will look and listen for flycatchers, vireos, warblers, tanagers, oriole and other species nesting in the forests of the Little Lehigh Creek at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary off Route 29 in Emmaus.

Participation is free but the Audubon Society asks that you RSVP if you plan to attend. For more information or to RSVP, send an e-mail to Chad Schwartz, the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society's youth coordinator, at youth@lvaudubon.org.

Pool Wildlife Sanctuary is located off Route 29. Turn onto Riverbend Road, and follow the road over a bridge and up a small hill. Turn right onto Orchid Place. The entrance to Pool Wildlife Sanctuary is down the hill, less than a half mile, on the right.
