Best seed mixes for the fall

Are you looking for the ideal seed mix as we turn from summer to fall? Use 50% black oil sunflower, 40% white millet and 10% safflower seed and the some peanuts. Our "Backyard Medley" or "Ultimate" mixes are good choices.

Do you live in a heavily wooded area? Use a mix with more sunflower and less millet such as "Backyard Best."

Also keep in mind: White millet is good; red millet is bad. Morning Doves, Cowbirds and Grackles each white millet. Red millet or milo is simply a filler that some big box stores sell to keep prices low. Most of this week seed winds up on the ground uneaten. The only exception is Quail. Unless you have Quail in your backyard, it's useless to buy seed blends that contain red millet or milo.
