Hawk Mountain seeks trail helpers

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is looking for volunteers to serve as "trail stewards" to help maintain the bird-watching paradise in Berks County.

With 8 miles of trails, half a dozen scenic overlooks and 70,000 visitors a year, Hawk Mountain needs all the help it can get to keep its most heavily used 2,500 acres of land in tip-top condition.

"Land management is an ongoing challenge, and a dedicated team of trail volunteers can make an enormous difference," Hawk Mountain said in its request for assistance.

If you'd like to help, visit Hawk Mountain Sanctuary on March 21 for an orientation. The day begins at 10 a.m. in the Education Building and lasts until 3 p.m. Please bring a lunch and bottled water in a day pack. Also wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. You'll spend several hours outdoors.
