Lehigh Valley bird sightings for March 7

Here are the Lehigh Valley bird sightings for the week ended March 7. The list was compiled by Dave DeReamus, of the Eastern PA Birdline, which is sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Audubon Society.


Brown Thrasher
Riverton, Northampton County
White-winged Scoter, 2 through March 1.
Long-tailed Duck, 3 on March 1.
Also seen: Wood Duck, Greater Scaup and Red-breasted Merganser.

Martins Creek, Northampton County
(near the PPL power plant)
Eastern Phoebe, 1 through March 1.
Also seen: American Pipit.

Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County
Red-necked Grebe, 4 on March 5 along the Delaware River near Lower Mud Run Road.

Bethlehem Township, Northampton County
Red-breasted Merganser, 3 on March 4 in the vicinity of the Bethlehem Boat Club near Route 33.

Bethlehem City, Northampton County
Peregrine Falcon, 1 on March 6.
Red-breasted Merganser, 1 on March 4 at the Monocacy Nature Center.

Seemsville, Northampton County
Short-eared Owl, 1 on March 3.

New Tripoli, Lehigh County
Brown Thrasher.

Rodale Experimental Farm, Lehigh County
Wilson's Snipe and Red-shouldered Hawk.

Lehigh Valley International Airport, Lehigh County
Snowy Owl, 1 through March 2 at the airport's northeastern sector.

Allentown, Lehigh County
Red-breasted Merganser, along the Lehigh River near the Hamilton Street bridge.
Redhead and Common Goldeneye, at the Dorney Park pond.
Red-Necked Grebe, 1 on March 5, and Greater Scaup, at Lake Muhlenberg.

Macungie, Lehigh County
Cackling Goose, 1 on March 2.

Gilbertsville, Montgomery County
Bullock's Oriole, 1 through March 1 near Oberholtzer Road
(FYI: In previous years, the Bullock's Oriole has stayed until the end of March.)
